Signature certification

A signature certified by a notary can no longer be challenged. Our firm in Beaulieu-sur-Mer attests your identity and the genuineness of your signature to give your commitments their full legal value.

What it involves

Giving force
to your signature

Certifying a signature means having the notary record that a document was indeed signed by the named person, after verifying their identity and legal capacity. The notary then affixes their own signature and seal to authenticate the whole.

This formality is often required for deeds intended for a public body, a bank, a foreign authority or a business partner. It removes any doubt as to the author of the document and secures the relations between the parties.

How it works

Real estate law

  • Presentation of a valid identity document
  • Verification of your identity and your capacity to sign
  • Signing of the document in the presence of the notary
  • Affixing of the seal and the certification statement
  • Handover of the certified document and advice on its use
Frequently asked questions

What you
need to know

A signature certified by a notary is presumed authentic and difficult to challenge. It protects your interests where a third party, an authority or a court might cast doubt on the origin of the document.

Most private deeds (sous seing privé): mandates, authorisations, attestations, commercial agreements, and forms intended for use abroad. The notary will not certify a document whose content is unlawful or contrary to public policy.

Yes. Certification requires that you sign in the presence of the notary, who records the act of signing. A signature affixed in advance cannot be certified in the same way.

For use outside France, signature certification is frequently accompanied by an apostille or a legalisation. We direct you to the formality suited to the country of destination.
